I don’t normally think of toads as beautiful, but I found out about some from Southeast Asia that are brilliantly colorful. The Oriental fire-bellied toad is yellow-green with irregular black spots. The photo I have doesn’t show the underside, but supposedly it’s bright red! A Christmas toad. Except for the black spots, that is.

These are fairly aquatic amphibians, and need to have about 4 inches of water to go for a dip in, as well as a place to dry out on. They like their temperature pretty moderate, somewhere in the range of 68-77 degrees F.

Another interesting looking toad is the Asian horned toad, which looks a lot like a leaf! This makes a great camouflage from potential predators. They’re often displayed in exhibits with dead leaves on the bottom so you can get the full effect.
